Can I Have More Kids After A Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a cosmetic procedure designed to tighten the waistline, remove excess body fat, and perk up or enlarge breasts following childbirth. Many moms may choose to schedule a mommy makeover when they’re sure they’re done with childbearing, since the point of the procedure is to remove the signs pregnancy and breastfeeding may have left on the body. However, the question may come up, “Can I have kids after a mommy makeover?”

Mommy Makeovers and Conception

A mommy makeover will not have any impact on your ability to bear children in the future. If you decide that you want to get pregnant again, having a tummy tuck or liposuction in your medical history won’t prevent you from moving forward with that pregnancy, nor will it increase your risk of miscarriage.
Furthermore, if you intend to breastfeed following a mommy makeover, procedures like breast augmentations and lifts are unlikely to impact your ability to produce milk. Many women are able to go on to successfully breastfeed even after a mommy makeover or breast augmentation procedure.

How Future Pregnancy Can Impact Mommy Makeover Results

While a past mommy makeover may not influence your ability to get pregnant in the future, the pregnancy can have an impact on your physical appearance and results following the procedure.

Breast Tissue Changes

When you’re pregnant and nursing, your breast tissue can increase and expand, causing a change in the appearance of your breasts. Many women find that their breasts are larger during pregnancy or when nursing. That stretching can lead to sagging following childbirth or the end of the breastfeeding period. If you’ve elected to lift sagging breasts or to have a breast augmentation, you may need to further lift or tighten the breasts in order to go back to your post-makeover appearance.

Changes to the Belly and Abdomen

One of the biggest challenges many women face in adjusting to their appearance post-childbirth is stretched skin and separated abdominal muscles following pregnancy. If you’ve had a tummy tuck or abdominal muscle repair following one pregnancy, and you get pregnant again, your abdominal area may return to its former appearance, requiring further cosmetic procedures in order to return it to your desired appearance.

Planning the Right Time for a Mommy Makeover

You can choose to have a mommy makeover at any time in your fertility journey, whether you’re done having children or not. However, if you’re considering the best time for a mommy makeover, you may find that it’s more practical to move forward with the procedure when you do not intend to have further biological children. If you change your mind down the road or have an unexpected surprise, however, you can still return for future cosmetic procedures that will restore that post-mommy-makeover look.
