Meet Dr. Richards
Long-standing resident of the Washington, D.C. metro area and a graduate of George Washington University in 1982, Dr. Franklin Richards is board-certified and has been in practice since 1989. Dr. Richards is most renowned for his expertise in minimal incision face and neck lifts, breast augmentation, and body contouring.
Dr. Richards is also sought by individuals needing correction or improvement of previous cosmetic procedures. Patients who meet with Dr. Richards immediately recognize both the passion he has for his work and the professional manner in which he interacts with people.
Education and Background
As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a member of several distinguished surgical associations, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Dr. Richards continues to draw on the collective knowledge and progress in the fields of plastic and cosmetic surgery. Committed to a sense of service, he has volunteered on numerous medical missions abroad and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces. Through his missions in Haiti and Honduras, he transformed the lives of dozens of children with birth defects and other deformities. He also had the privilege of serving as an attending plastic surgeon at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding work as Burn Unit Director at William Beaumont Army Medical Center during Desert Storm.
Credentials and Achievements
Dr. Richards, a 2020 Castle Connolly Top Doctor, has long been recognized for his leadership in the field of plastic surgery. He was voted President of the National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2002 and previously served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins/Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He has shared his expertise through presentations at national meetings and publications in professional journals, including his most recent co-authored article with Dr. Jabs, which introduces an innovative surgical technique designed to significantly reduce pain after breast augmentation.
Dr. Richards has been honored with the Physician’s Recognition Award from the American Medical Association (AMA) and the prestigious Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Surgery from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). His excellence has also been acknowledged by Consumers’ Checkbook in their “Top Doctors” list and in the Guide to America’s Top Plastic Surgeons by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. Locally, his reputation has been reinforced through recognition in Washingtonian magazine’s “Top Plastic Surgeons” list, while his expert opinion has been sought by respected publications such as The Washington Post and Washingtonian magazine.
