In recent years, there’s been a public reckoning for mainstream beauty standards that tell people (mostly women) about the way they should or shouldn’t look—that everyone should aspire to a single ideal appearance and anything else is something to be ashamed of.
This false reality has crippled people’s self-esteem, confidence, and identity for years. But now people and, crucially, businesses and cultural influencers are fighting back. This is the body positivity movement, which is built on the idea that every body type is valuable, and each can be celebrated for its own unique qualities.
Loving Your Body
A misconception about body positivity is that it’s simply a rebellion against the traditional beauty ideal, and is built on negativity or even hatred of “skinny chicks.” In reality, body positivity is about recognizing that people of all shapes and sizes deserve to love their bodies for what they are, and know that almost all people struggle with body image issues, no matter their body type.
We believe deeply in body positivity at Cosmetic Surgery Associates, and recognize that our craft is about helping people love their body and increase their self-esteem through the way they look and feel. Plastic surgery is not about creating artificial beauty to hold yourself to an unattainable standard, but rather to celebrate, love, and create a body that helps you feel more like you.
Body Positive Plastic Surgery Procedures
There are many more reasons to have a plastic surgical procedure than you may think. Not everyone who comes to our office is doing so for superficial reasons. Instead, they come with hope for a body they will feel more comfortable in, sometimes for reasons like these:
- Correcting skin issues and improving overall
appearance - Resurfacing tissue to reduce the appearance of
birthmarks - Augmenting the breasts to help people feel more
confident - Removing and/or tightening sagging skin to help
people look as young as they feel - Performing liposuction to get rid of stubborn
problem areas and balance the body
Plastic Surgery for the Right Reasons
Whatever the reason for getting a plastic surgical procedure, there’s still a way to have it done for the wrong reason. If you’re motivated to change something about your body, it cannot be from a place of shame or obligation. It should be from a place of realistic hope for a body that looks and feels like your truest self.
After all, plastic surgery is a tool for self-expression. As a tool, it can be used for the right reasons as well as the wrong ones. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we believe all people should have the ability to change themselves for the better through the services we offer, whether surgical or not.
