With so much focus on beauty, it’s only natural to want to look as youthful as you can for as long as possible. Our eyes are one of the first places to show the signs of aging. Even as young as in our thirties, we can start to see premature wrinkling and a loss of elasticity under the eye, both of which make us look older than our true age.
While anti-aging creams and serums can improve your skin’s integrity, it can’t produce the same results as eyelid surgery can. If you’re considering eyelid surgery but aren’t sure what to expect, below are some of the benefits of eyelid rejuvenation.
Types of Eyelid Surgery
Just as no two patients are the same, neither are their aesthetic goals. Some patients experience sagging of the upper eyelids, whereas others develop dark circles and bags under the eyes.
Upper Blepharoplasty
Collagen production starts to slow as we get older, so it’s not uncommon for patients as young as their late twenties to develop a heaviness in their upper eyelids. Excessive drooping of the upper lids can add years to your true age and also cause significant visual impairment. An upper blepharoplasty removes redundant skin and improves upper eyelid sagging, which can restore visual acuity.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Nothing makes us look older than we are than dark circles, loose skin, hollowness and bags under the eyes. A lower blepharoplasty removes sagging skin and repositions the muscle underneath, giving you a more youthful, well-rested appearance. Often fat grafting is performed along with surgery to fill in under the eye
What to Expect
Whether you’re considering an upper or lower eyelid surgery, the first step is a private consultation at Cosmetic Surgery Associates, where your aesthetic concerns and goals will be addressed.
The Procedure
Both upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation. However, the procedures can be performed under general anesthesia if necessary. The type of anesthesia used during your procedure will be discussed during your consultation. The incisions for both procedures are made in the lash line to hide visible scarring.
Recovery
Recovery from both upper and lower eyelid surgery is typically seven to 10 days. Most patients only experience minimal discomfort with slight swelling, which subsides relatively quickly. Pain medication will be prescribed but often over-the-counter pain medication is all that is needed. Most patients take off from work for a week following their eyelid rejuvenation surgery.
