If you are like me, the older you get the more hair you lose. I have decided to fight back and have the hair I am losing in the front replaced by the hair from the back of my scalp that is not sensitive to testosterone. Looking into this I have decided to offer this procedure to my patients as well. To show how well it works, I’ve decided to have it done on me first.

There are several ways to do this surgery, but I think the best is to have a procedure that can be done in the office under minimal to no anesthesia ( I took a few pills and slept through my procedure yesterday), with as little pain as possible. To tell you the truth, it really doesn’t hurt very much at all.
I looked at plugs (old school and very noticeable), strips (where the doctor takes a scalpel to your head and removes a strip of hair-bearing tissue and then dissects it on a table to separate the hairs which leaves a long, transverse scar on your head) or FUE, follicular Unit Extraction. I decided to offer my patients the latter and to have the procedure done on me.

In this technique, your scalp is numbed and a technician harvests INDIVIDUAL hairs with a rotary tool that leaves little punctures. The hair is then inserted into the areas you need it ONE HAIR AT A TIME. You cannot believe how nice this leaves the donor area and how natural your hair looks.

I had it done yesterday, 1200 hairs over 5 hours, and I felt very little. I slept the whole time! I did wake up long enough for a sandwich and then, back to sleep. Not a bad afternoon at all. I am posting the pre-op and 1st-day pics today with more to follow.

Follow along with me as we see the changes.
