Shape
Why We Use Round Implants
Round implants are ideal for those who desire a noticeable, yet proportionate, change in appearance. The roundness of the implant creates voluptuous breasts with ample cleavage.
We do not believe there is benefit to the anatomical or tear-drop shape, and actually see problems associated with it. This belief has been confirmed by CAT scans which show a round implant takes on a tapered shape once it is placed. Additionally, the tear-drop shape has a large chance of rotation which can cause numerous issues and require re-operation. Smooth implant rotation will not change the appearance of the breast, which is a great benefit. Round implants also have less likelihood of rippling.
Texture
Why We Use Smooth Implants
When placed under the muscle, you can’t see a visible difference between smooth and textured implants. Having done thousands of breast augmentation procedures though, it is our finding that smooth implants work best for our patients. The likelihood of rupturing or rippling is lessened and the implants have a softer feel to the touch.
A reason textured implants were created was the thought that they reduce capsular contracture, but by using advanced insertion techniques, the contracture rate is no different than smooth implants. In fact, our capsular contracture rate at CSA is very low due to our “no touch” sterile technique. The implant is inserted without touching the skin by using a special funnel.
Profile
The profile of breasts refers to how far the bust sticks out from the chest with the implant. There are 3 different profiles – low, moderate, and high.
- Low provides the least projection and the widest base.
- Moderate gives slightly more projection but has a similar base.
- High gives the greatest projection with a narrow base.
The profile that is best for you will depend on your build and the site of the implant. Low profile is best for women with a wide frame, while high profile is best for a narrow frame. The narrower the base, the greater the projection from the chest.
Our Philosophy
We try and use the lowest profile as it looks most natural. However, a low profiled large implant on a petite frame will cause the breasts to stick out on the sides of the chest. If a patient desires a profound, rounder look we will provide a high profile. We take the time to measure our patients, consider the size they want to be, and see which profile will give them the best outcome.
Each person is unique, so ultimately it is what you and the doctor think will compliment your frame the best. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates we will help you make this decision during your consultation.
