Dysport

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

As cosmetic surgeries and procedures advance, there is an increasing number of ways to turn back time and reverse some of the unwanted signs of aging that have developed across your brow, cheeks, nose, mouth and around your eyes. One of the newer methods is an injection called Dysport.

To learn more about this injectable and to find out if Dysport is right for you, please contact Cosmetic Surgery Associates today and schedule a complimentary consultation!

Dysport: A Wrinkle-Stopping Injection

Dysport is similar to Botox in that it is a formulated neurotoxin that relaxes muscles in the face by limiting the connections between them and the nervous system which helps to prevent wrinkles and lines that are caused by making facial expressions. This effectively keeps present lines and wrinkles from deepening by reducing overall movement in the facial muscles, hindering their ability to contract. Dysport treatments are very effective in temporarily eliminating moderate-to-severe crow’s feet, smile and frown lines, and other signs of age on the face. Repeated sessions have also been shown to maintain or improve the initial results over time.

How Dysport Works

The Cosmetic Surgery Associates offers Dysport as well as Botox, as the two work on similar principles. As a neurotoxin, Dysport is injected into the brow and other facial targets, temporarily cutting off the muscles from the nerves and helping the skin to relax and smoothen. It produces natural rejuvenation results without causing your face to appear stiff or unnatural.

Because it is an injection, the amount and placement of Dysport can be extremely precise, allowing untreated muscles to retain full functionality, so patients are still able to be as expressive as they normally are. Ongoing Dysport treatments can help eliminate and further prevent the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the mouth, nose, brow, and other facial areas.

It is possible to undergo multiple treatment sessions, with patients often returning on a semi-regular basis to upkeep their more youthful appearance.

Good Candidates

Good candidates for Dysport treatments should be looking to treat dynamic lines and wrinkles on the face.

Patients should not have any allergies to the ingredients in Dysport and should have realistic expectations for the results. To get rid of growing lines and banish that frown line between your eyebrows, talk to the physicians at Cosmetic Surgery Associates today and schedule a consultation.

Dysport addresses many facial aging issues, but not all of them. If you are primarily concerned about lines and wrinkles around your nose and cheeks, there may be other, more effective treatments. But those wanting to treat the forehead and eyes may see even better-than-expected results with Dysport. During the initial consultation, our physicians can work with you to determine the best treatment for your needs.

Treatment Areas

Dysport is mostly used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, but not all wrinkles and lines are the same. Dysport specifically treats dynamic lines and wrinkles that are caused by facial muscle movements when making expressions. It is especially proven to be helpful around the eyebrows and brow regions. Injections target five specific points along the brow, eliminating frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes for a long-lasting, wrinkle-free appearance.

Static lines and wrinkles that are caused by a decrease in volume within the skin are better treated with a type of dermal filler, such as Restylane.

Dysport Treatment Process

Being a simple injection treatment, Dysport requires minimal preparation. It is recommended that patients do not wear any makeup during the treatment session, and they should abstain from anti-inflammatory medications or other blood thinner herbs and supplements to avoid the possibility of excessive bleeding during the injection.

Your physician will begin the session by cleaning and sterilizing the treatment areas. A local anesthetic is available upon request to minimize injection discomfort but is not often needed. Dysport is then injected at precise angles and positions to target specific contractions that lead to wrinkling. As soon as the injection is finished, you are able to immediately return to your normal daily routine.

It is highly recommended that you avoid sun exposure and strenuous activity for a couple of days following the procedure.

Alternative & Additional Treatments

Depending on your particular case and the treatment that is required, Dysport may not be the ideal injectable for you. Listed below are the two primary alternative treatments, which may also be combined at times with Dysport for cumulative effect on the face.

Botox

One of the original neurotoxin treatments for the face, Botox and Dysport work similarly by paralyzing targeted facial muscles, which reduces and smooths out wrinkles and lines. FDA-approved like Dysport, Botox gained widespread use in the USA earlier than Dysport and is more commonly known. Our physicians will work with you to help determine if Dysport or Botox is right for you.

Dermal Fillers

At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we offer a wide array of dermal fillers that are available to patients looking to restore volume in the skin and attain a more youthful aesthetic, reducing the look of sagging, thinner skin around the face. Dermal fillers are made of synthetic material that is injected under the skin to minimize static lines and wrinkles; it can often be combined with Dysport sessions to create an even more youthful appearance than either treatment alone. There is no harm in utilizing both anti-aging procedures at the same time.

A fuller, perkier appearance is easily achieved with the dermal filler.

Some great dermal filler options we offer are Juvederm, Restylane, and Volbella. Each filler offers different benefits such as filling scars, sunken cheeks or deep creases. The active ingredients are well-received by the body and FDA-approved to provide long-lasting improvements in areas of the face that have lost volume.

In combination with other facial rejuvenation techniques like skin resurfacing or Broadband Light treatments, Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers can be used to achieve complete restoration of your appearance.

Consultation

Schedule a consultation with Cosmetic Surgery Associates physicians, and you can achieve wrinkle-reduction and anti-aging solutions right away.

Consultations are one-on-one meetings with Dr. Jabs, Dr. Magge, Dr. Richards or one of our highly-trained staffed where patients can gain a clear understanding of the procedure they wish to undergo. Alternatives and additional treatments may also be laid out fully so you can be confident in your eventual choice.

A patient’s goals and expectations are reviewed, so the physician is able to draw up a complete health profile, including current activity and nutritional overviews, past cosmetic surgeries and medications, lifestyle choices (such as whether you’re a smoker or drinker), and more. The target areas of the face will be measured and photographed prior to Dysport treatment in order to gauge how much work will need to be done to achieve the desired results. Any potential risks or complications will be covered, and all your questions will be handled to your fullest satisfaction. It is recommended that you bring in a list of any questions or concerns you have to make sure every point is addressed, ensuring the best experience. A few sample questions are listed below, but you can discuss it as much as you wish during the appointment.

FAQs

Here are a number of questions about Dysport that will help guide you through your experience. It is recommended that you write down any others to discuss with your physician in person, particularly if there are details concerning your individual case or health situation.

How long has Dysport been used?

Dysport has been FDA-approved for use in the USA since 2009, though it has been used for aesthetic improvement globally since 1991.

What about the side effects of Dysport?

If side effects occur after a Dysport treatment, they are often mild and only last for a short while. During the session itself, there may be some stinging or burning sensations, and there can be mild pain or sensitivity to the skin around the treated area following the procedure. Some patients have experienced low levels of itchiness, seen some redness/flushing, and had rashes. Minor bruising and discomfort are treatable with ice packs or over the counter pain medication.

How often can I get injections of Dysport?

Dysport, like Botox, can be applied numerous times in order to maintain or improve on the initial results. However, we recommend that patients wait for at least 90 days between Dysport treatments. Clinical studies have shown that at least four sessions will deliver the greatest improvements, and optimizes the effectiveness of the injections. Safety studies have shown no specific complications arising from as many as twelve continuous treatments for a single patient.

Cost

Each Dysport provider within the Cosmetic Surgery Associates system will have individual rates, and your specific Dysport session price may differ depending on how extensive the treatment needs to be for your target goals. Dysport is often priced “per unit,” with more units required for longer-lasting and more immediately visible results. During the initial consultation, you will be given an accurate Dysport treatment quote based on your exact needs. Please contact our office and schedule a consultation today!
