Juvederm

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

As one begins to age, the body naturally and slowly begins to lose volume in the skin due to diminishing amounts of collagen. Among other functions, collagen is what the body uses to keep our skin healthy and youthful, giving it the plumper look while also promoting softness, elasticity, firmness, and a smooth appearance. However, as collagen is lost over time, our skin can suffer. Areas, where collagen has reduced, can begin to look hollow, or thin—especially in areas of the face such as the cheeks, around the eyes, and near the mouth. Also, a loss of collagen is a big factor when it comes to the development and deepening of wrinkles and lines throughout the face. Fortunately, there is Juvederm, a volumizing dermal injection.

At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, we offer various dermal fillers, including Juvederm, to help you achieve the facial aesthetic that you desire. This treatment has helped many patients to replenish lost volume and also to enhance certain facial features, such as the lips. Juvéderm: Volumizing Injectable

Collagen production can be triggered by various means; however, these treatments do not provide instant results.

Some patients turn to a variety of cosmetic procedures in order to rejuvenate one’s skin and aesthetic appeal. One of these is a subdermal filler called Juvéderm. This injectable is made of a hyaluronic acid gel solution (a natural substance already found in the body) which helps bridge the gaps in the skin where collagen once existed, to restore volume, even out lines and wrinkles, fill out portions of the skin, and creating an overall healthier, younger appearance. This injectable is also used to provide enhancement to certain facial features, such as the cheeks, lips, and nose.

Benefits

Juvéderm has a wide variety of benefits that have made it one of the most popular dermal fillers patients choose to restore their natural beauty. Here are just some of the reasons why our patients consider Juvéderm when it comes to rejuvenating certain facial features.

Restored Contours

As a subdermal filler, Juvéderm doesn’t just conceal signs of age and the wear-and-tear of the elements. It also redefines the contours of your face, giving you a fuller look to the cheeks, chin, and brow, plus helping restore a healthy and alert appearance around the eyes and lips.

Youthful Skin

Juvéderm brings back a healthy glow to your face, dropping off years of age at a time. Your skin will look fuller, plumper, and naturally younger, with reduced wrinkles, lines, and even scars fading into the background.

Self-Confidence

When you’re worried about time leaving its mark on your face, erasing those marks can be an enormous stress-reliever and provide an emotional balm that gives you increased confidence and self-esteem, especially when in public or otherwise interacting with others.

Safe Procedure

Juvéderm is FDA-approved, and more than two million Juvéderm procedures are successfully performed each year. At Cosmetic Surgery Associates, great pains are taken to ensure you receive the finest, safest care at all times.

Immediate Results

You should see immediate changes to your skin following a Juvéderm session, and be able to enjoy the results for up to a year or two, depending on the extent of the work done, as well as your ongoing lifestyle choices.

Patient Reviews

Literally the best practice ever. I chose Dr. Richards based on his reviews and him and his team did not disappoint: Joanne is amazing and will answer all your questions and make you feel comfortable and Tiffany is such a knowledgeable, sweet Nurse. Good Juvederm Candidates

Patients who are dissatisfied with signs of aging throughout the face such as an increase in wrinkles and deeper, bolder lines all around your mouth, nose, and eyes, may be good candidates for Juvederm. It is important that patients who are considering Juvederm treatments do not have any allergies to its ingredients and understand that it is not a permanent correction to the signs of aging, but rather a treatment that can be used routinely to maintain a more youthful appearance.

If the effects of aging are severe, Juvéderm may not be ideal to achieve the look you desire. Skin that is too thin or loose may be better treated through a more invasive procedure, such as a facelift or neck lift. Please discuss any questions or concerns with our physicians at the Cosmetic Surgery Associates during your initial consultation to determine whether Juvéderm is right for you!

Types of Juvéderm

Juvéderm comes in an array of different gel compounds, each of which is a unique formulation designed to address different treatment needs and with results that last varying lengths of time. A few of the more common ones include:

Juvéderm Vollure XC

A more precise version, this Juvéderm injection was designed to affect fine lines and wrinkles, with 18 months being the average length of results.

Juvéderm Voluma XC

This gel formula focuses on filling out the mid-facial areas, especially the cheeks, to restore volume and plumpness, with results lasting up to two years.

Juvéderm XC

The original formula, this version deals with moderate-to-severe facial wrinkling around the nose and mouth, with results lasting up to a year.

Juvéderm Ultra XC

This gel injection is used primarily on the lips to reduce wrinkling and lines around the mouth. Results average up to one year.

Juvéderm Volbella XC

The lips benefit most from this version, with volume being added and vertical lip lines being diminished for up to one year.

Juvéderm vs Botox

In regards to injectables that restore the appearance of youthful skin, Juvéderm is often mistakenly compared to Botox as one of the main alternatives.

Botox and Juvederm are two very different treatments that address different concerns. In short, Juvederm is used to restore volume and treat static wrinkles whereas Botox is used to treat dynamic lines and wrinkles that are a result of making certain facial expressions.

Botox is a neurotoxin that blocks signals between the nerves and muscles in the face, preventing the development of lines and wrinkles and preserving the skin along the brow, between the eyebrows, around the nose, eyes, and mouth. Botox mostly affects wrinkles formed by dynamic muscle contractions.

In contrast, Juvéderm works more effectively on wrinkles and lines formed by static processes such as collagen loss. Botox also does nothing to restore lost volume to the facial areas, whereas Juvéderm does.

Both of these treatments are very beneficial to treat unwanted signs of aging. The treatment option chosen will simply depend on your individual case and what you are looking to achieve. To find out which treatment will be best for you, please contact our office today!

The Injection Experience

Before undergoing Juvéderm treatment, you will want to avoid blood thinners and anti-inflammatory medication and should not wear any makeup the day of your treatment.

Before beginning treatment, a syringe will be readied with Juvederm, and the target area will be treated with a local anesthetic to ensure little to no discomfort is felt. The needle is inserted around the mid- to deep-dermis layers, and the gel is then injected until the full effect is achieved. This normally only takes 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treated area.

These injections can also include a small portion of pain-reducing medication to provide further comfort.

Recovery

After a Juvéderm session, you can expect to see immediately restored volume to the treated area, with reduced lines and wrinkling for the restored youthful look you’ve wanted. There might be some mild swelling, redness, sensitivity, and itching, but this should subside quickly.

There is no recovery period, and you’ll be back on your way immediately after treatment.

Juvederm injections do not require as much prep work or follow-up observation to ensure results are achieved. Patients are cautioned to not immediately engage in strenuous activity, undergo any extreme sun exposure, wear makeup, or drink alcohol for at least the first 24 hours following a Juvéderm session. Results should last for six months up to two years, though this will vary according to the specific Juvéderm product used.

Consultation

During a consultation, each of the physicians Cosmetic Surgery Associates is more than happy to walk you through the process of a Juvederm treatment. Dr. Jabs, Dr. Magge, and Dr. Richards have seen it all and can answer any questions that you have.
