Are you considering undergoing surgery? Whether it’s for cosmetic or medical reasons, there are a few things you should know beforehand so there are no surprises the day of.

Plan Ahead

To ensure, there are no surprises the days before the surgery or the day of, you’ll want to plan ahead of time. Make sure you have someone who can drive you there, be with you after the surgery, and drive you home. This is not something you want to spring on someone last minute. Give them plenty of time.

You’ll also want to plan what to wear on the day of surgery. Find your most comfortable and loose-fitting clothes. You may be put in a hospital gown for the procedure but after when you may be sore or bruised, you’ll want comfortable clothes to wear.  Additionally, leave any jewelry and valuables at home. They will only get in the way or may get lost.

Ask Questions

There are no ridiculous questions when it comes to your health. Ask your doctor about anything you’re worried or concerned about. You want to go into the procedure as comfortable as possible and knowing what’s going to happen, what the risks are, how many times your surgeon has done the surgery, and how you’ll feel after are all things you may want to know to ensure you have the best experience possible.

Follow Instructions

This may be the most important tip. Make sure to follow all the pre-surgery instructions your doctor gives you. You may not be allowed to eat or drink before the procedure. Smoking may also not be allowed a few weeks before surgery. Make sure you follow those guidelines.

If you’re unclear about any of the instructions, make sure to ask your doctor for clarification.

And don’t be afraid to bring a pen and paper to write down all their answers.
