Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

So you look up at the calendar hanging on your kitchen wall, with a big red circle sketched around the 15th day of the month, because that’s the dreaded day when you have to somehow squeeze your out-of-shape self into a skinny black dress, you once rocked in college.

Unfortunately, for you, this task seems impossible given the fact that your once completely flat and toned abs now have you reaching for the XL size trousers!

Sometimes, regular exercise and a healthy diet don’t help us reach our fitness goals on time, which is why a lot of people find plastic or cosmetic surgery a much easier and quicker option these days.

What is an abdominoplasty?

Also commonly known as a “tummy tuck”, this type of plastic surgery helps define and contour the stomach area by removing excess skin and fat to achieve a thinner and firmer abdomen. It is performed on people who have undergone sudden weight loss, or pregnancy, or who have loose or sagging muscles or tissue.

There are a variety of abdominoplasty surgeries available today, and the patient’s body type, age, health, and fitness levels are considered before choosing the appropriate type of surgery.

  • A complete abdominoplasty is the most invasive type of tummy tuck. It requires two incisions to be made and is coupled with muscle tightening, skin removal, and some liposuction to achieve the desired shape and contour.
  • A partial or mini abdominoplasty is performed on patients with hardly any excess skin or abdominal fat and requires minimal tummy contouring. It requires making only one incision, with or without liposuction.
  • A circumferential abdominoplasty involves the removal of excess fat or skin from not only the tummy area but the lower back region as well, which will help sculpt the entire abdominal area to achieve an overall appealing body contour.
