Breast Augmentation Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Studies have shown that feeling good about your appearance is an important part of your overall self-confidence and mental health. Achieving your aesthetic goals in a positive, realistic manner can be a significant boost to your self-esteem. Studies have also shown that the vast majority of people who have reasonable expectations who choose to undergo cosmetic procedures achieve their aesthetic goals and come away satisfied and with an improved quality of life.  In Washington, DC, the most popular cosmetic procedure performed today is breast augmentation, the procedure that gives patients fuller, firmer, larger breasts.

But did you also know that there is another combination procedure, the breast augmentation with lift, that has recently become popular? This procedure offers patients living in Chevy Chase and surrounding areas of Maryland a more comprehensive renewal of the appearance of their breasts.

The breast augmentation with lift achieves both a fuller appearance of the bust, along with treating sag and breast ptosis for a lifted, youthful look.

What Is Breast Augmentation with Lift?

Ptosis is the medical term used to describe breasts that have lost tissue elasticity, and are sagging substantially enough to render the nipple and areola out of alignment with the breast crease. Ptosis can be caused by various factors, including the natural aging process, fluctuations in weight, breastfeeding, pregnancy, gravity, and genetics.

The symptoms of breast ptosis are apparent, but each person experiences ptosis in a variety of ways. There is a scale that measures the different kinds of breast ptosis. The breast ptosis scale describes the appearance of the nipple in relation to the rest of the breast mound and where the breast meets the chest cavity, the inframammary fold (IMF). Grade I or mild ptosis is where the nipple is level with the IMF and mostly above the rest of the breast mound. At its most advanced stage, “advanced ptosis,” the nipple may have dropped to the point of facing downward, and the lower hemisphere of the breast sags far below the IMF. There is another form of breast ptosis which is called parenchymal maldistribution where the breasts have lost their volume and appear deflated.

For individuals who would like to correct the problematic symptoms of ptosis, as well as the problems of stretched skin, large areolas, downward pointing nipples, and asymmetrical breasts, breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is an excellent option. However, it is important to remember that if you are seeking not only to correct the problem of sagging breasts but also to increase the overall size or shape of your breasts (or to fill out the center or the upper concavity of your breasts), you will need to undergo a breast augmentation procedure in conjunction with your breast lift surgery. A breast lift alone will not increase the overall size or fullness of your breasts, but when performed with a breast lift, can lift and enlarge your breasts simultaneously.

The natural aging process can bring about unwanted changes to a woman’s breasts.

These changes may lead to ptosis, the medical term describing breasts that have sagged far enough that the nipple and areola are out of alignment compared to the breast crease. Aside from the aging process, factors such as breast feeding, pregnancy, fluctuations in weight, genetics, and gravity can also decrease breast tissue elasticity. Breast lift surgery can benefit individuals who would like to correct the problematic symptoms of ptosis, as well as the problems of stretched skin, large areolas, downward pointing nipples, and asymmetrical breasts. However, it is important to remember that a breast lift procedure cannot increase the overall size or shape of the breasts, nor can it fill out the center or the upper concavity of a breast.

These results can only be achieved with a breast augmentation surgery, which, when performed in conjunction with a breast lift, will lift and enlarge the breasts at the same time.

Breast Lift Techniques

Crescent lift (“nipple lift”): a simple breast lift to correct cases of mild nipple asymmetry or slightly droopy nipples.

Benelli Breast Lift (“donut mastopexy”): a minimally invasive breast lift performed to correct mild to moderate ptosis, but used more for reducing the size of large areolas.

Vertical Mastopexy Breast Lift(“lollipop breast lift”): provides more lift than the Benelli procedure but less than the full mastopexy, and is most appropriate for patients with moderate ptosis.

Full Mastopexy Breast Lift (“anchor lift” or “inverted-T lift”): results in the most substantial lift, and is performed to correct cases of severe ptosis.

Benefits

You can feel confident knowing that our experienced physicians place your health and safety as their number one priority, and will take every possible measure to ensure that your procedure is successful and that you achieve your ideal results.

Combining a breast augmentation surgery with a breast lift offers several advantages, and, according to a recent study in the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), “Breast lift surgery and breast augmentation with implants can safely be performed in a single procedure.” The benefits of combining the two procedures include a lower risk of surgical complications, the convenience of a single experience under anesthesia, and having to undergo only one recovery period after your operation. Additionally, having the procedures performed together can be more cost-effective, and will enable you to achieve optimal results after one operation, rather than sequential procedures.

Making the decision about whether to combine your breast augmentation surgery with a breast lift procedure may seem overwhelming; however, our physicians at Cosmetic Surgery Associates, will conduct a thorough consultation and evaluation of your anatomy, medical history, and surgical goals, in order to expertly guide you and advise you throughout your decision-making process.

However, according to a recent publication in the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), “Breast lift surgery and breast augmentation with implants can safely be performed in a single procedure.”

Not only is it a safe option, but there are also many advantages to performing the two procedures in conjunction with one another, including the convenience and safety of a single dose of anesthesia, a lower risk of surgical complications, and having to undergo only one postoperative recovery period. Performing your breast augmentation and breast lift together can be more cost-effective, and will enable you to see your final results after only one procedure, as opposed to sequential operations.

Consultation

During the initial consultation, one of our physicians will assess your particular case and determine if a breast augmentation combined with a breast lift is right for you. The doctor will look at your medical history, routine medications, and current health status to ensure that this is a safe option for you. He will then perform a physical examination to make the final determination for your candidacy. Before leaving our office, you will be given a chance to schedule your procedure, although there is no obligation to do so. To schedule a consultation, please contact Cosmetic Surgery Associates today and speak with one of our helpful staff members.

The Procedure

Both the breast augmentation and breast lifts are highly customizable procedures that offer patients a number of options that can be matched to fit their goals and body. A custom treatment plan will be created at the time of the consultation to help you attain the appearance that you desire.

The procedure itself will be performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis, meaning that you will be free to leave our office after your surgery. To begin the procedure, the physician will make the necessary incisions to remove excess skin from the breasts. Several types of breast lift operations can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation.

After analyzing the degree of your ptosis, the doctor will select the appropriate procedure to meet your needs and surgical goals. Once the breasts have been lifted adequately to a higher position, the doctor will close the incisions and begin the breast augmentation. The type of implant used for the augmentation will be determined during the consultation. The doctor will insert the implant and position it properly within the breast pocket. Any remaining incisions will be closed, and a surgical bra will be worn to help promote adequate healing.
