Eyelid plastic surgery is performed on both upper and lower eyelids to either correct functional problem like sagging skin over the eye or for cosmetic reasons. During this procedure either excess skin is removed from upper eyelid and remaining ones ends are stitched back or fat under lower eyelid is removed to clear the bags. The incisions for eyelid surgery are made below the lash line or inside the eyelid to avoid scars on the face. People with wrinkles around the eyes in Northern Virginia also undergo this operation in which fat from below lower eyelid is spread under the skin to make it supple.

Different types of eyelid lift cosmetic surgeries

Depending on your condition and desired results board certified plastic surgeon Dr. A. Dean Jabs will suggest right procedure for you depending on age and condition.

a. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty – Performed on the lower eyelid to remove fat deposits and smoothen wrinkles in the area, the procedure also includes spread of fat from eye bags to cheekbone area to soften hollowness in that section.

b. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty – Droopy upper eyelid or ptosis can cause loss of vision if the excess skin is not removed at the earliest. To correct this problem in Chevy Chase, MD, plastic surgeon will remove excess skin and stitch together the remaining parts of eyelid together.

c. Double eyelid surgery – Preferred by South East Asians of Alexandria, VA as they have smaller eyelids, during this cosmetic surgery procedure a small crease is created in upper and lower eyelid to create double layers in both eyelids for cosmetic reasons.

Recovery & Results

Since blepharoplasty is not an intensive procedure, patients have a short recovery period and are given cold compress to reduce swelling and bruising in the area which generally lasts for three to four days. Stitches on the incisions are removed only after a week and bandages are placed on them till they are removed. Like other surgical procedures even blepharoplasty has its own share of risks and complications to which Bethesda, MD patients may be vulnerable. Eye dryness and sensitivity to sunlight followed by lid lad in lower lid are some of the after effects of procedure.

The biggest risk of this procedure a patient may face if the surgeon is not able to do it properly are abnormal eyelid position and double eye vision or worse suffer from loss of vision. Consulting plastic surgeon at McLean, VA may even advice patients to undertake light exercises and walking. Patients that have undergone blepharoplasty can return to work within seven to ten days of the procedure as most of the pain and swelling would have subsided by them.
